My laptop's cooling vents are blocked because of dust. How can I fix it?

start with a vaccum cleaner and if that doesnt work use an air compresser and if you haven't performed regular cleaning maintenance on your laptop to remove the accumulated dust, then the laptop will likely need to be opened up in order to complete this task efficiently. There are many corners inside the laptop where dust will accumulate, and if it isn't removed by using something like "canned" air, ( compressed air in a can that is purchased in stores that sell computer accessories ), it can become very difficult to remove using this method. The cooling fans small blades become so dirty that they are inefficient at moving air to cool the components. Since you seem to be new at using laptop computers, I'd suggest either asking a friend who's a computer "geek" to help you get your laptop cleaned up. Do this only if the warranty has expired because some warranties will be voided if the laptop is opened by someone other than a qualified technician. If that isn't possible, then go to a local computer repair shop and ask their technician to perform the cleaning for you. This will likely cost you around $40 to $50, but it will be a lesson learned about why you need to perform this type of maintenance routinely so you don't have to have a friend or repair shop perform the task. Using your own canned air at regular intervals takes 5 minutes at most to blow the air through the vents and off of the fan blades, and costs nothing but the price of the can of compressed air and your time. There are all kinds of YouTube videos that can be searched that will cover most brands of computers for this maintenance.

Method 1: Blow out the dirt If you're not confident using a screwdriver to dismantle your laptop, grab a can of compressed air or try a camera lens air duster if you have one

Method 2: Open up the laptop If You are are happy to wield a screwdriver, turn off the laptop, flip it over, and remove the battery. Remove the plastic or metal panel in the base and hopefully it will reveal the fan and clean it.

Method 3: Replace the fan The plastic bearings in laptop fans don't last forever and if your fan is emitting a loud whine (which it didn't when you first got the laptop) it's probably time to replace it. You can buy a fan from ebay , Amazon, etc.

1
Turn off the computer. The fan cannot be spinning while you clean your vents, so the computer must be powered down.

2
Pull out any large pieces of debris. If there's anything poking out through the vent, just pull it away with your fingers.

3
Using the tweezers, pull out any visible lint.

4
Spray the vent. Using canned air, spray into the vent to dislodge any smaller pieces of lint or dust.

5
Power the computer on. Let it run for a few minutes to see how well the fan spins. Some debris may be blown out of the vent.

6
Clean the fan. If it still isn't spinning properly, and if you're feeling adventurous, you can use a repair guide to disassemble your laptop and clean the fan itself.

You can take it to a qualified professional if you like, as others have suggested, but it's not hard to do yourself. The exact details may vary according to the type of laptop you have, but it's generally easy to take the top cover off a laptop (meaning the keyboard) and have enough access to the fans to clean them Sometimes you can just blow out the dust with your breath, or you can get a can of compressed air at Wal-mart to blow out the dust. Sometimes you can suck it out with a vacuum cleaner. And you can clean out dust with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. The alcohol evaporates quickly - much faster (and its safer) than water. Then put the top back on and away you go. If you don't know how to take off the top, you can check your laptop's owner's manual (they can often be downloaded from the manufacturer's website if you don't have a physical copy) or you can find tutorial videos on Youtube.

Ask for help from a technician, I'm one, and I can advice you that the worst way to save money is to prevent to give to a laptop the propper maintenance, using a vacuum cleanner from the outside (or an air copressor) is not good idea, and can make worst your problem istead of solve it.

For the maintenance, specially if overheating, the laptop need to be opened, some some models, we need to disassemble them piece by piece.

I have received laptops torned into scrap just for being desassembled without experience.

Yup, I agree with Christopher. Just take it to qualified computer repairer.

Because if you cannot open it then you have no choice. You mean you don't have the proper shape of screw drivers that'd fit in you laptop?

Mine was starting to get very hot so I opened the case and cleaned the fan, there was so much dust omg.

You are able to thoroughly clean your pc through motorized inflator or even hands brash. Dirt should be thoroughly clean simply because whenever air conditioning enthusiast is actually always for the laptop computer. It's indeed for you personally.

If you are not comfortable opening up the laptop to give it a good internal cleaning, then take it to a computer shop & have the professionals do it for you.

Have a good friend or parent who knows how to open and handle computer technology Open the laptop, and blow it with a good can of air.

Make a hook out of fine wire and fish out clumps of dust and hair. You really need to open the case to get out all the clogs. Clean the fan too.
